House 3 is a four-bedroom custom home in Whitfield, designed to sit quietly into the hillside while capturing sweeping views across Cairns and Trinity Bay.

House 3 in Whitfield is a client-led custom home in Cairns, shaped from the ground up around the way its owners want to live. BAU Architects translated that vision into architecture, and Maxa Constructions was brought in early to ensure this architecturally designed home stayed buildable and on budget throughout.
The result is a four-bedroom custom-built home that sits quietly into the Whitfield hillside, its roofline the only hint of what lies below from the street. The privacy is deliberate. At the front of the home, full-height glazing faces Cairns and Trinity Bay, capturing views and prevailing breezes that make this elevated position one of the most sought-after in Far North Queensland.
Inside, polished concrete floors run throughout, grounding the interior and connecting the spaces. The open-plan kitchen flows into the main living area, with a second lounge offering a quieter retreat for the household.
Floor-to-ceiling windows ensure the outlook is present from every room, with the city and the bay a constant backdrop to daily life.
Natural tropical design elements respond to the Cairns climate, keeping the home comfortable and connected to its environment year round.
A dedicated office, wine room and two living areas reflect the considered way the brief was developed. Each space is purposeful, nothing superfluous. The gym, complete with cold plunge and sauna, extends that same thinking into wellness, giving this custom Cairns home a self-contained quality that suits the hillside setting well.
